Michael Jackson Accused
Court TV's Diane Dimond discusses the case against the pop star
Feb. 13, 2004

Court TV Host: A judge in the Michael Jackson case delayed a ruling Friday to set a date for the singer's preliminary hearing. Discuss the latest developments with Hollywood At Large's Diane Dimond.

Court TV Host: Hello Diane, thanks for joinung us!

Diane Dimond: My Pleasure!

Question from tantre: Hi Diane, what are thoughts about Michael Jackson calling Armstrong Williams?

Diane Dimond: I think it's a very smart public relations move. Michael Jackson should probably talk to more members of the media not fewer.

Question from Joe: Question for Diane: Will we have more info on the Neverland search warrants and the warrants from L.A. in the weeks to come? And is there any other news of this gay porn guy that may have made tapes of Jackson?

Diane Dimond: On the first part of your question: the judge has already released redacted versions of the search warrant for Neverland. We didn't learn very much at all because he took out the important parts. The only thing we're sure they took from Neverland are computers, but we don't know what they found on those computers. As for the second question: His name is Mark Shaffel. He's an admitted pornographer. I have not heard that he has any pornographic tapes of Michael Jackson. I think police raided his home because they were looking for outtakes from a special Shaffel shot for Jackson which aired on Fox. They wanted to see if the young accuser was coached to say nice things about Michael.

Question from gm: Diane, can you fill us in on the story about two more boys coming forward? Will they testify as well?

Diane Dimond: That is a report form the National Enquirer. And I've tried hard to confirm it. So far all my law enforcement sources say it is not true. I spent all day trying to confirm that.

Question from rckytop: Why the delay in the MJ hearing?

Diane Dimond: The judge says neither side is ready to proceed. There are 900 documents the DA has given the defense. And that's only half of it so far. So you can see the massive amount of documents that both sides have to deal with.

Question from mummer: Where is Michael now?

Diane Dimond: Who knows? He didn't have to be at court today because the judge waived his appearance. We probably won't see him until the trial.

Question from tantre: Do you think Mark Geragos will take this case all the way to trial or will he be leaving the case?

Diane Dimond: He was asked that today outside of court. He didn't answer. But Ben Brafman told reporters he's tired of hearing that. He's tired of hearing that Geragos might leave. Geragos is staying, he said.

Question from anxious: Where are his children?

Diane Dimond: That's another good question. The last I heard, they were at the Beverly Hills mansion he was renting. And the child protective services workers came to question them a week or so. I guess they're still at that mansion.

Question from fly: Mark and Ben CAN'T proceed because Sneddon turned his stuff over LATE. Why won't Sneddon get his act together... perhaps because he has NO CASE and he's dragging things out hoping to find another LYING family?

Diane Dimond: It is not true that Sneddon is dragging his feet. At the arraignment the judge ordered him to turn over all the discovery that he had. He did so later that same day..... giving Geragos four computer disks full of documents. Everyday, every time a sheriff's officer questions someone they must write a report. So more documents are generated everyday. Sneddon says he's turning it over as fast as he can.

Question from Jake: What about the $70M?

Court TV Host: The New York Times is reporting that Jackson is having some financial difficulties.

Diane Dimond: I understand Jackson owes $70m to the Bank of America next week. His financial advisors say there is no problem. Many other independent financial analysts say they are scrambling to find that much money.

Question from suds681: Is the first (1993) boy going to testify and if not, why not?

Question from Salducci: What are the chances of the '93 Boy testifying?

Diane Dimond: The DA wants him to testify, but I hear he is scared to come forward. He is afraid that a Jackson fan might do him harm, but he still may testify.

Question from mikesfan: Why should we believe in the media when all they do his defame, him

Diane Dimond: The media can only report the facts and it is up to you to decide what to believe. If you're really interested in this case I would suggest you read, listen and analyze all sorts of reporters stories and then decide for yourself.

Question from WALLYWEST: How long do you think this trial will take?

Diane Dimond: There is no trial date set yet. But in court today the judge said he wanted the trial by the end of the year. The defense said December is good for them. So this trial will likely go into next year. I hope that helps. I have to go!

Court TV Host: Thank you very much, Diane! Bye!
